Gaels Take Game 1
The Clarington Green Gaels came out on top in Game 1 of their first round playoff series against the West Durham Ironheads Thursday night. Ethan Harwood got the start in goal for the Gaels stopping 38 of 45 shots for the Win. While Wes Carew of the Ironheads stopped 44 of the 52 shots he faced in the loss.
The Ironheads jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and quieted the crowd early in the first. Cole Tucker and Connor Platt then scored as the period neared it's end and the Gaels would trail by just 1 after 20 minutes.
In the second period the lead would change hands multiple times however a last second Ironheads goal would see the Gaels once again trail by 1 after two periods.
The Ironheads struck again to start the third taking a 7-5 lead. Max Taylor would pull the Gaels within 1. Quinn Hyland then played hero as he would tie and then score the game winner to put the Gaels ahead in the series 1-0.
The Gaels are back in action this Saturday at 8pm at the Pickering Recreation Complex before returning home Thursday to host game 3.
